I’m a Missouri girl turned missionary wife in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. I’ve been home schooling at least one of our kids every year since 1997.
In July of 2008 we joined Mission Aviation Fellowship and received our assignment to Africa but before we could come we had to raise our ministry support and complete French language school, finally arriving here in October 2010. David is the only full-time mechanic on our team, so he stays busy keeping the planes in shape.
When I have both free time and electricity, I enjoy quilting and digital scrapbooking. I like to visit a local orphanage to play with the kids when I can. I love coffee, coke, and good chocolate; not necessarily in that order. I hate washing dishes. I hate pastel colors. I like cats and even though half my family is allergic, we have two of them because they catch roaches. Did I mention there are lots of roaches in Africa?
I started blogging because my husband kept encouraging me to keep a journal since God has done so many neat things in our lives and we want to remember them. I am a very visual person and need color, so it is easier for me to do my journaling on the blog than in a notebook. I have at least eight or nine journals that I enthusiastically began with the best of intentions. I filled about ten pages in each. Now they sit on my shelf whispering accusations of neglect and failure at me when I pass by. At the same time, we were traveling and relocating at a whirlwind pace and I wanted to make it easy for our family and friends to keep up with us. The blog seemed to meet both needs at once. It has sort of morphed since I began and taken some unexpected turns. I had no idea that God would use it to reconnect me with old friends and to introduce me to new ones. I didn't expect to receive emails from others who shared my feelings or experiences. It's been a real blessing and a fun journey so far!
